The Road Ahead

The ELF in Malibu, CA

My family lives on the East coast, in the town of New Paltz, NY. It is where my heart lies. I am taking this journey to find my way back home.

I have a dog named Miles and a cat named Gracie. I just can’t leave them behind. They are family.  So a few weeks ago I began the search for a vehicle that could take us all across the country. That’s how I discovered THE ELF.

Last night my friends Shari and Aaron asked to take the ELF down from the mountain into Malibu. Even though I was tired, I agreed. And once we hit the road, our joy erupted. ELF is happiness-producing, silly, and giggly. You can’t help but laugh when you are with her. We stopped by a local restaurant on the edge of the ocean and ran into some Topanga locals. They stopped me as I was passing. We could see whimsy pass over their faces as they inquired about her. They wanted to jump in and hit the road with us. ELF is made for the road. And she urges others to follow.

On the beach, Shari suggested that I write this travel blog to document the road ahead. So here I am…with a limited road map and a whole lot of faith.

I wrote a few commandments for the journey ahead to keep me present, centered, reflexive, and laughing.

  1. I will remove Facebook from my phone. This blog will be my primary connection to the outside world. I will post one blog every day. This will force me to be present, in the moment, and watching the road.
  2. I will not bring a map. Nor will I use my phone to tell me where to go. Literally, the journey will be the destination.
  3. I will get outside, exercise, and move my body once a day.
  4. I will stay in the RV at campgrounds.
  5. I will follow my intuition and be ready for what comes my way.
  6. I will both celebrate and forgive myself for the road behind.
  7. I will be on the road now. And not expect from the road ahead.
  8. I will move only from a loving intention. I will not move or shift because of fear.
  9. I will laugh. (A lot).
  10. I will try something or meet someone new every day.
  11. I will live joyfully and love fully.
