I am super excited to announce that my dear friend Pam has joined the Gypsy band. She will fly out to California from New York to drive across this beautiful country with us. She is a writer, a poet, and and all around beautiful spirit!
She will also contribute her poetry to this blog! See below the photograph for her first poetic contribution.
Welcome to the ELF Gypsy Band, Pamela!
Telling Stories by Pamela Ugor
This gypsy,
Wet with long lashing hair, copper skin, dripping in the rhythms they spin.
She’s biting her lip, not letting her eyes trip, so he can’t tell
What’s behind her smell.
A cover-up. Cheek-kissed, hugged and dismissed, while thunder rips between beats
Beats hit heavy deep where eyes can’t seep
But her smile’s sweet dressed by crimson beets.
This gypsy,
Fast on her feet, a child wanting to compete for his attention
He can’t tell because she just men-tioned wine.
The Devil drinks with Jesus and she watches from behind.
She can’t decide which side should win
So she tells them tales of blues and scales
And dusty abodes where naked-skin rolls
With clinking bottles and humming fans.
Jesus listens with patience and the Devil stands.
This gypsy,
Reaches out her hand.
